Cricket World Cup Venues 2011

The 2011 Cricket World Cup is unique as it will be held across the sub-continent rather than one country that is normally the case, we will take in matches in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh during the World Cup with games spread across the three cricket mad nations. There would have been a fourth country involved in Pakistan had they not been stripped of their host status due to some security issues, as it is though we are left with the three countries and a number of excellent venues across the nations.

As people would expect it is India who are the dominant nation here with the majority of games being played there across eight venues, Sri Lanka will host a number of games across three games and Bangladesh will host eight games across their two allocated stadiums. It was decided that Bangladesh will host the opening ceremony and first game while the World Cup Final will be played in India in Mumbai. The Wankhede Stadium is the stadium for the big match on the 2nd April and it is going through a major renovation and upgrade in order to be ready for that big match.

Another new and notable stadium is the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy; it has been built specifically to host World Cup games in 2011 and should prove an excellent venue for the tournament.
