1987 Cricket World Cup - World Cup Winners Australia

The fourth Cricket World Cup finally saw the tournament move away from England to Asia to be hosted jointly by India and Pakistan.

This tournament saw a new cricketing nation rise to the top and has to this day not looked back. Australia led by the man responsible for the change in the nations cricking fortunes Alan Border take his team to the final and beat a very competent England outfit to take the trophy for the first time.

Marsh and Boon got Australia off to a good start and reached 253 with Boon top-scoring with 75. England in reply saw Gatting in command and the target of 253 seemed very gettable however he went to reverse-sweep Border's first ball and was out caught from then on England were struggling and although Lamb shepherded the tail well and DeFreitas biffed the ball around they were left to get 17 from Craig McDermott's final but this just proved too much.
